Monroe County residents who rely on the county assistance office in Stroudsburg will not be able to walk in Thursday mornings beginning Thursday, Nov. 5.

The Pennsylvania Department of Human Services (PADHS) announced that county assistance offices statewide will not open to the public until 1 p.m. on Thursdays, WBRE/WYOU reported. The offices had been opening at 11 a.m. on Thursdays, according to the report.

The change affects the Monroe County Assistance Office at 1972 W. Main St., Suite 101, in Stroudsburg.

Phone lines are affected, too. The PADHS customer service line and helpline will not accept calls before 1 p.m. on Thursdays, according to the department's statement. The Monroe County office can be reached at 570-424-3030 or toll-free at 1-877-905-1495 during regular hours, according to the PA.gov county assistance office directory.

PADHS said the delayed openings are for staff training and will remain in place on Thursdays for the foreseeable future, according to the WBRE/WYOU report. The department has not announced an end date.

The PA.gov directory lists the Monroe County office's standard hours as 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. That listing does not reflect the Thursday schedule change. Residents planning a Thursday visit should plan to arrive after 1 p.m.
